More than a week ago, I promised my now-grown-up kids’ second grade teacher that I’d walk the picket line with her if L.A. Unified teachers went out on strike. I woke up Monday and the rain was torrential, but who can say no to a teacher? The energy and optimism at Franklin Elementary, and the car trunks full of doughnuts and Starbucks, were really impressive. Just like what Ms. Perez and her colleagues do for kids every day at school.
