LOS ANGELES — For whatever reason, DeAndre Jordan didn’t care for his Los Angeles return, or didn’t seem to. He missed shootaround with an illness, avoided talking to reporters before the game, and barely looked up at his tribute video aired at the first timeout break. “I watched some of it,” he said afterwards. “It was good.” When the montage concluded and the cameras narrowed in on him, Jordan initially didn’t acknowledge the roaring crowd. After several long seconds, he eventually stood, glanced north to the Jumbotron, and raised his hand towards Clipper fans everywhere, a fanbase that cheered him the first decade of Jordan’s career.
It’s unclear, and unimportant, why. Jordan might have been worried about being too sentimental, or perhaps he’s not the sentimental type at all. Who knows what else might have been on his mind: the illness that morning, the team’s recent losing streak, something different…
