Blog: An All-Vegan German Beer Hall Opens in Highland Park

Highland Park’s next drinking destination is Hinterhof, a German-style beer spot that sports an all-vegan menu.

If the terms “craft beer” and “vegan” sound perfectly on-trend for 2019 Los Angeles, that’s precisely the point. Hinterhof owner Matthias Brandt has made sure to give the York Boulevard option all the necessary tools for success, including a wide outdoor patio that’s perfect for warm spring day drinking. First-time restaurateur Brandt and partner Eric Funk previously told Eater that beyond the 12 local taps (plus stuff from abroad), Hinterhof will also have an espresso machine and serve breakfast.

As for Hinterhof’s vegan food menu, expect a lot of classics like hearty German salads, pretzels, and meatless sausages. German staples like bratling and wienerschnitzel will also make appearances in an effort to offer something different than the mostly Mexican-leaning vegan street food found up the street on Thursday nights. Hinterhof is officially open in Highland Park.
