Habit Burger plans to open its first DTLA location in one of LA’s fastest growing urban neighborhoods here in South Park
Happy new year DTLA! It’s 2019 and I’m so grateful that Downtown LA has grown so much over the last year as over half a dozen major residential projects were added to the completed housing stock (i.e., Circa, Griffin/Grace, 888 Grand Hope Park, etc.). With that being said, it’s now more important than ever to continue to add more practical daily businesses that service all these new residents moving into Downtown LA. That’s why I’m glad to learn that another tasty and affordable dining option — that downtown residents and office workers can frequent without hurting their wallets — will be opening this year in one of DTLA’s fastest growing neighborhoods.
Coming to the northern section of South Park, Habit Burger recently signed a lease to open its first DTLA location at the northeast corner of 9th and Hope on the ground floor of the new 888 Grand Hope Park residential tower.
Once voted America’s favorite burger (beating out even In-N-Out and Shake Shack!), Habit Burger is a growing fast casual chain with a simple tasty menu known for its “Charburger” combo selections. The new DTLA Habit Burger will be a corporate store (not a franchise store according to the restaurant’s broker) and will occupy approximately 3,000 square feet of commercial retail space along 9th Street facing both FIDM and the beautiful 2.5-acre Grand Hope Park the tower was named after.
Developed by CIM Group, 888 Grand Hope Park is a 34-story glass tower completed in September of last year with 526 rental units ranging from studios to larger penthouse apartments with spectacular city views. Prices for units can range anywhere from $2,200 to $12,000. (Click here to tour inside the luxury property.)
Opening later this year, Habit Burger will be a much-needed addition to this dead stretch of 9th Street. I expect the restaurant to do well given the lack of eating options in the immediate area (and 2,600 FIDM students across the street definitely doesn’t hurt). This dead block is in desperate need of activation as the adjacent historic 1914 Trinity Auditorium has sadly remained empty for decades with renewed tentative plans to open as a new hotel later this year under the Journal Hotels brand.
Habit Burger currently has multiple store locations across the Los Angeles area including USC, Echo Park, Eagle Rock, Santa Monica, and Glendale.
