Trade season is officially underway after the Trevor Ariza melodrama mercifully ended Saturday. The Phoenix Suns shipped Ariza to the Washington Wizards for swingman Kelly Oubre and combo guard Austin Rivers.
With Ariza now off the market, the Lakers are back to square one. The team hoped to acquire Ariza with a package centered around Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, but it ultimately wasn’t enough to get a deal done. So, who should the Lakers look to add via trade? Here are a few potential options.
Wayne Ellington, Miami Heat
You can never have too many shooters, especially around LeBron James, and Ellington would be a perfect fit next to The King. He’s a career 38 percent 3-point shooter making only $6 million on a year-one deal that would be a welcome addition to any contender.
The Lakers could probably acquire him for a future pick and could swap bricky Lance Stephenson’s minutes for the sweet-shooting Ellington. Since they are currently 18th in 3-point shooting percentage (34.9), the Lakers should be salivating at the possibility.
