Anna Wintour is having a very busy day, but we couldn’t help but notice that she made time to give a subtle nod to tonight’s Met Gala Theme: Camp: Notes on Fashion. And since you could call what she wore a style "mistake" and more over-the-top than something she’d typically wear, we’re guessing it was intentional.
While photographed stepping out of NYC’s The Mark Hotel (where many of the Met Gala attendees get ready) this morning, Wintour wore a clashing-prints look that made us do a double take. Wintour is not one to shy away from prints and color, but her ornate green and gold printed tea-length dress and tall snakeskin boots (along with her colorful jewel-encrusted statement necklace) was surprising.
The standard advice when mixing prints is to stay in the same color family, but Wintour’s dress-and-shoe combination strays from that adage. Perhaps it just goes to show that snakeskin really is a neutral, and style "rules" are meant to be broken, especially when you have campy fashion on the brain.
Read on to see Wintour’s pre-Met Gala look and see how some of the Met Gala attendees are already embracing "camp".
