Angelina Jolie is one of the most talked-about women in the world, making viral news for everything from her new Marvel role to her separation from Brad Pitt, with the couple finally announced to be single this year (three years after filing for divorce), choosing to ‘bifurcate’ their marriage.
This week however it wasn’t her dropping her son Maddox off at Yonsei University in Seoul, South Korea or her new film Maleficent: Mistresses of Evil that made her a huge talking point. Instead it was the news that she had entered the world of YouTube.
Yes, this is not a drill.
Angelina Jolie is officially a YouTuber.
But if you thought the verified channel, new this month, would be for beauty tutorials or ‘what’s in my bag’ videos, you can think again.
Judging by the current content, the channel will be to shine a light on her role as a UN Special Envoy.
‘After years of dedicated service to UNHCR and the cause of refugees, Angelina Jolie was appointed Special Envoy in April 2012,’ the ‘about’ page on her YouTube channel reads. ‘In her expanded role, Jolie focuses on major crises that result in mass population displacements, undertaking advocacy and representing UNHCR and the High Commissioner at the diplomatic level.’
The bio continues: ‘She also engages with decision-makers on global displacement issues. Through this work, she has helped contribute to the vital process of finding solutions for people forced to flee their homes.’
With only 12,000 subscribers so far, Angelina Jolie seems to be keeping this YouTube channel low key, but we’re sure that’s about to change.
