Amidst all the forward-thinking drops in May, TAKAHIROMIYASHITA TheSoloist.’s Converse collection may be the most inventive. Taking cues from the Jack Purcell, the Japanese designer crafted a playful collaboration as part of his Spring/Summer 2019 collection, replete with packable outerwear.
Rejoining Converse following the release of his elevated ERX 260 Hi, Miyashita serves up a transformable jacket loaded with details, abetted by a hoodie, tee and two Converse Jack Purcells. Each garment is packable, stowing into an attached pouch designed to recall the Purcell, with the outerwear sporting laces and branded tongues on the hoods, details directly lifted from the iconic sneaker. The GORE-TEX-lined jacket is the centerpiece of the collection however, sporting plenty of hidden features.
Lightweight and loose-fitting, the jacket is executed in all-black, including the matching laces at the rear of the hood. Snap buttons reinforce the zippered closure at the placket and allow for a snug fit on the visor-laden hood. Converse’s Chevron branding appears atop the taped seam zippers, while two internal pockets utilize velcro for quick closure. The internal pouch that the jacket packs into is attached to a hook to easily attach to a bag, while two buckled straps inside the jacket allow the wearer to carry it like a backpack. Several key details carry over to the Purcell sneakers, including the branded laces and tongue, with a full-length zipper that mirrors the closure on the jacket.
The collaborative capsule hits Converse’s website and TAKAHIROMIYASHITA TheSoloist.’s NYC pop-up on May 23. Expect the collaborative Purcell sneakers to weigh in at $110 USD apiece, while the GORE-TEX Jacket, hoodie and T-shirt retail for approximately $420 USD, $200 USD and $75 USD, respectively.
Most recently, Converse introduced the progressive Star Series UT and RN lifestyle sneaker lineup.
