A YouTuber who fed a homeless man a toothpaste-filled Oreo was just given a 15-month prison sentence

A YouTuber who posted a video of himself giving a homeless man an Oreo cookie filled with toothpaste in 2017 has been given a jail sentence and a $22,000 fine by a Spanish court, the New York Times reports.

Kanghua Ren, whose YouTube channel ReSet boasts roughly 1.2 million followers, was convicted of "violating the moral integrity" of the man.

Ren made the video after being prompted by a fan. He gave the man the toothpaste-filled Oreo along with a 20 euro bill. The victim, a Romanian man identified only as Gheorge L, subsequently vomited.

After the video sparked outrage, Ren replaced it with one of him coming to the same man and offering him another 20 euro bill. Police also said that Ren offered the victim’s daughter 300 euros in exchange for not pressing charges. The judge noted that the video, despite having been removed, earned Ren more than 2,000 euros ($2,237) in advertising revenue.

The Times notes that Ren is unlikely to serve time, as first-time offenders with sentences of under two years are often granted suspended sentences. The 20,000 euro (about $22,390) fine is to be paid to the victim.

The court also reportedly ordered that Ren’s YouTube channel and social media accounts be shut down for five years. YouTube was not immediately available to comment when contacted by Business Insider, however we were able to find Ren’s verified YouTube channel.
