As the franchise’s 20-year anniversary approaches, Nickelodeon has ordered 13-episodes of a new Spongebob Squarepants prequel series under the name Kamp Koral. The series is said to depart from the original show’s usual art style for a CG-animated approach, similar to its 2015 film SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water.
The show will introduce Spongebob as a 10-year-old kid during his time at a summer sleepaway camp. It will see him and his friends building campfires, catching wild jellyfish, and visiting Lake Yuckymuck. Production is rumored to begin this month.
