A First Look at Michael Gandolfini as Young Tony Soprano

"Like father, like son," the saying goes as Michael Gandolfini prepares to take on the same iconic role his late father James Gandolfini portrayed 20 years prior.

19-year-old Michael, who was casted in the role earlier this year, will take on young Tony Soprano in the upcoming Sopranos prequel film The Many Saints of Newark. Now a few on-set photos have surfaced courtesy of The Daily Mail showcasing Michael dressed as the pivotal character. And by the looks of his attire, the film will be set in the late 1960s during the race riot of ’67. The film, which is co-written by Sopranos creator David Chase, will take fans back to the early days of Tony Soprano, giving them a look at how he came to be one of the most iconic mob bosses of all time. Along with Michael, Jon Bernthal was also spotted in costume, however it is still unclear what role he will play in the film.

Along with Gandolfini and Bernthal, The Many Saints of Newark will also star Alessandro Nivola, Vera Farmiga, Leslie Odom Jr., and Ray Liotta. Newark lands in theaters next year on September 25.

The Sopranos is considered one of the best shows of all-time and originally aired between 1999-2007. James Gandolfini won multiple awards for his portrayal of Tony Soprano before passing away at the age of 51 in 2013.
