Wildchild takes over the former Pieology sometime this year
Downtown Culver City’s fortunes continue to change with news today of a mellow new neighbor called Wildchild landing later this year. Not to be confused with Culver City’s existing WildCraft restaurant, Wildchild will offer a more cross-cultural, shared plates kind of perspective for evening diners, along with lots of open-air architecture and a full slate of cocktails.
The restaurant is the work of Macks Collins and chef Bryan Kidwell, the pair behind inventive food truck Mad Pambazos. The growth into a standalone brick and mortar restaurant is particularly heartening for Kidwell, who last year suffered a serious spinal injury while at the beach, leading to untold thousands of dollars in medical care, a GoFundMe page, and a doctor’s assessment that he may never walk again.
Wildchild takes over for the recently-shuttered Pieology, right on the corner of Bagley Avenue and Culver Boulevard in downtown Culver City. Preen Inc. (Howlin’ Ray’s, Tesse, Odys + Penelope) will oversee the design, with plans to open up the side walls, grow the patio, and make the whole thing feel open and airy. There’s no word on an opening date just yet, but expect something before the end of the year.
Wildchild. 3850 Main St., Culver City, CA.
