Art Basel Hong Kong has officially kicked off its seventh year of programming and exhibits. Each year, a range of artists showcase original pieces not limited to paintings, sculptures and oversized installations. Joining the mix this time around are an assortment of luxury fashion houses who are debuting private and public exhibits.
If you’re into art, you’re probably well aware of the newly minted KAWS: ALONG THE WAY exhibition hosted by the Hong Kong Contemporary Art (HOCA) Foundation and Art Central Hong Kong. For the fashion lovers, Louis Vuitton’s Objets Nomades Collection and Fendi‘s "Shape of Water" exhibit are two spaces worth checking out.

For its latest collaboration, Miu Miu teams up with creative agency M/M Paris on a takeover of the fashion house’s Landmark boutique. The installation titled e-Miu-ticons which is set to run from March 21 until April 7 was created by M/M Paris’ founders Mathias Augustyniak and Michael Amzalag. The installation features a revamp of Miu Miu’s logo and typeface, in addition to bags, accessories and a limited-edition capsule of ready-to-wear created with the reworked graphics. In total, a series of 10 emoticons are designed by the agency.

Louis Vuitton‘s striking Objets Nomades Collection has officially landed within the Tai Kwun Centre for Heritage and Arts. This year’s exhibition features a recreation of an apartment featuring an array of luxury homeware not limited to chairs, tables and more. Throughout the space, you’ll find an assortment of pieces created with Louis Vuitton’s beloved monogram print. Additionally, the scenography display was created by the critically acclaimed design studio, Joyce Wang Studio.

Titled KAWS: ALONG THE WAY, this major survey put on by the Hong Kong Contemporary Art (HOCA) Foundation is an exhibition comprised of 37 works curated by Germano Celant. This eye-catching exploration of the artist’s work over the last decade includes figures, paintings, sculptures and large form pieces in Hong Kong for the first time. This launch of this show directly follows the KAWS: HOLIDAY floating art piece. In addition, the HOCA exhibit spans in chronological order and is placed inside and outside PMQ.

Fendi has teamed up with Sabine Marcelis to design The Shapes of Water, a creative project utilizing water as a main design tool. Paying homage to the brand’s 10-year anniversary collaboration of the fashion house and Design Miami, Marcelis constructed ten fountains created of cast resin. Each fountain is directly inspired by a staple part of the brand’s heritage such as the "FF" Zucca logo and the Peekaboo bag. Hong Kong will be the first city to feature this exhibition from March 26 through April 14 after its debut in Design Miami in December 2018.

This year’s Art Central returns with 107 galleries, four interactive programs and six immersive large-scale installations. Presented through thought-provoking curated booths, the exhibition highlights 20th-century artists in addition to emerging contemporary talents from the Asia Pacific region and beyond. Standout pieces include the Bengali-born artist PARESH MAITY’s sculpture titled "Birth From the Golden Egg" and RON ARAD’s "Dodge Stepside Pickup." The former reflects the fast-paced life of metropolitan lifestyles, while the latter focuses on the utilitarian purpose of objects. Additionally, Art Central includes a Swarovski "Shades in Ascent" installation by Steve Leung. This portion of the space features endless floating lanterns created with Swarovski crystals beads.

Following up on previous collaborations with Jordan Brand, Converse and Nike, CLOT rolls out a new footwear collab accompanied by a Hong Kong exclusive pop-up. The sneaker model created to celebrate Air Max Day is entitled the Air Max Haven 97. The design fuses the AM97’s sole with the AM Haven’s upper. The trainer will drop in three colorways including "Volt/Dark Gray," "White/Sail" and "White/Off White Sail." Alongside the footwear release will be a limited edition apparel launch by and art exhibit created by American artist Katherine Bernhardt. Pieces by Kazuki Kuraishi will also be available for purchase.
