Every week in Los Angeles there are tons of great things to do (even before the weekend gets started) that we think you ought to have on your radar. With that in mind, we put together a list every Monday through Friday morning to keep you in the know about what’s happening in the city you love (or maybe just like).
This week, from Monday, July 8 to Friday, July 12, features a new art exhibit with giant crystals, a week-long celebration of Apollo 11, Black Fire Sessions at The Broad, dineL.A., sunset concerts at Skirball, Delicious Little Tokyo, and MUCH more.

Monday July 15th, 2019
1. Start your week with a free Jam Session at the Ford Theatres. This week’s focus: Old School street dance. FREE
2. dineL.A. Restaurant Week returns for a 15-day dining event that highlights the diverse and exciting culinary experiences Los Angeles has to offer. 3. Funny humans Daniel Van Kirk and the Sklar Brothers present Dumb People Town a show at Largo that examines dumb people doing dumb things (often in Florida) they’ll be joined by Patton Oswalt, Lauren Lapkus and Joey Ryan of The Milk Carton Kids.
4. There’s a free Mindful Yoga on the Beach series in the South Sand of the Manhattan Beach Pier this Monday at 6:30 p.m. FREE
5. Venice Kickball (Westside) Kickball – Free Pickup Game at Oakwood Recreational Park. FREE
Tuesday July 16th, 2019
6. CRYSTALLINE: Brazil’s Crystal Giants is the latest exhibition at Rhythm Visuals Gallery in DTLA. The exhibit showcases a bevy of Brazil’s biggest gems, including a 2000-pound Amethyst Violet Throne you can actually sit on. The gallery is open Tuesday-Sunday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
7. The Griffith Observatory celebrates the 50th anniversary of the launch of Apollo 11 with a kick off event on the front lawn and then the observatory’s popular All Space Considered program looks back on the historic mission in the Leonard Nimoy Event Horizon theatre. The observatory will continue the Apollo 11 celebration Wednesday and Thursday with additional free events and a ticketed Apollo 11 screening and rooftop moon party will take place on Friday.
8. Moonlight Movies on the Beach brings a summer-long series of free outdoor movie screenings on the shores of the LBC to three different locations near Downtown Long Beach and Belmont Shore. The series continues with The Nightmare Before Christmas at Granada Beach on Tuesday and Coco at Cherry Beach on Thursday. Screenings happen on select Tuesdays and Thursdays through August 20. FREE
9. The Central Courtyard at Hollywood & Highland hosts free concerts every Tuesday in July as part of the 16th annual Subaru Summer Jazz Nights. There will be performances by Hunterones, Boogaloo Assassins, Bria Skonberg, and Jose Rizo’s Mongorama this month.
10. Gustavo Dudamel conducts the music of Romeo and Juliet at the Hollywood Bowl with ballet support by the L.A. Dance Project performing Benjamin Millepied’s original choreography. DISCOUNTED (via Goldstar)
11. Mr. C’s Poolside Cinema is back for the sixth year in a row. From June 11 through August 27 Angelenos can indulge in a luxury outdoor movie experience by the pool with a Cipriani menu, classic movie snacks and Peroni Nastro Azzurro. Alice in Wildlife will be screened this week.
12. After runs in Valencia and Woodland Hills POP SK8, a themed pop-up outdoor roller-skating rink opens this Saturday at Westfield Culver City, running through August 4. Keep in mind every day is a different theme so check their schedule.

Wednesday July 17th, 2019
14. A colorful, winding installation called The Second Home Serpentine Pavilion is now open at the La Brea Tar Pits for the summer and its 100% free for the public to roam and explore. The pavilion is open daily and will run through November 24. FREE
15. The Super Serious Show is a comedy event produced by CleftClips featuring both established and up-and-coming talent performing an array of stand-up, sketch and musical comedy. This Wednesday is their 9th year anniversary show. Happening at The Virgil.
16. Black Fire Sessions launches at The Broad with live music and dance performances that celebrate the current exhibition Soul of a Nation: Art in the Age of Black Power 1963-1983. Performances will be spread out throughout the museum.
17. Apollo 11: The Immersive Live Show retells the tale of the first moon landing using 40,000 square feet of 360-degree graphics beaming from 32 total projectors, and an almost full-scale replica of the mylar-draped Command Module Columbia. And of course the timing couldn’t be more perfect, with the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 11 mission coming up later this month. Check for discounted tickets before making your purchase. 18. Downtown Culver City’s 7th annual ‘Third Wednesday Summertini Tasting’ returns for another year of free drink tastings at participating businesses. FREE
19. Back for the 16th year in a row, The Independent Shakespeare Co. presents Shakespeare in the Park at the Old Zoo in Griffith Park with a free performance of Twelfth Night Wednesday through Sunday. FREE
20. Join the Los Angeles Conservancy for a walking tour of City Hall.
21. JAPAN HOUSE Los Angeles presents the world debut of their latest exhibit “BAKERU: Transforming Spirits.” Visitors are invited to step into the supernatural world of Japanese folk traditions from the northern region of Tohoku, Japan, created by large-scale interactive projections with motion capture technology. The exhibit is on display July 17 through October 6. FREE
22.FLIX at FIG screens The Karate Kid at FIGat7th in DTLA. The free movie screenings happen every third Wednesday of the month. A live DJ and happy hour kicks off the night at 6 p.m. and the film begins at 7 p.m. FREE
23. Shakespeare By The Sea will once again offer a ten-week program of admission-free performances with two featured productions: The Comedy of Errors and Henry V at a variety of venues across Los Angeles Wednesday through Saturday. FREE
Thursday July 18th, 2019
24. Gustavo Dudamel will be conducting a special anniversary concert topped with fireworks to celebrate his 10 years with the LA Phil. 25. Taking place every third Thursday of the summer months, The El Segundo Art Walk is a self-guided exploration featuring more than 35 artists in 30+ venues in downtown El Segundo. FREE
26. Outfest Los Angeles LGBTQ Film Festival returns on July 18 – 28 for eleven days of world-class films, panels, and parties. More than 150 feature and short films will be screened.
27. Head to Chinese American Museum after-hours for a look at the immersive Lightscapes exhibition plus a variety of food, music, art-making, calligraphy demonstration, and raffle prize giveaways. FREE
28. Sizzling Summer Nights at The Autry happens every Thursday. Enjoy live music, dance lessons with an instructor, access to museum galleries, and a separate children’s dance floor, plus tacos, margaritas, and other light refreshments (available for purchase.) Sizzling Nights continue weekly through August 22.
29. KCRW’s Summer Nights series stops by the Hammer Museum with a performance by Wild Belle plus KCRW DJs Scott Dallavo and Aaron Byrd. FREE
30. Black Panther screens as part of Outdoor Movie Nights at Baldwin Hills Crenshaw Plaza. FREE
31. The City of Pasadena hosts Parks After Dark a season of free activities including sports, fitness classes, arts & crafts and much more offered to youth, families and individuals every Thursday through Saturday from July 10 through August 10. FREE
32. The Skirball Cultural Center welcomes it’s twenty-third annual season of Sunset Concerts with singer-songwriter Gaby Moreno kicking off the series on Thursday. The evening begins with a DJ set by Mamabear of dublab. FREE
33. Enjoy free family-friendly outdoor movies in Malibu thanks to Screen on the Green every Thursday through August 15. This week Moana will be screened. FREE
34. Night Market is back on the hilltop of the iconic Yamashiro restaurant every Thursday all summer long. Angelenos can enjoy boutique vendors, food vendors, a concert series, cocktails at Yamashiro’s Pagoda Bar and an unbeatable view of Hollywood. This event is also kid friendley. Please note this year the organizers are charging $10 to park at the shuttle location. Shuttles are free and so is admission.
35. The Bloc presents Concerts at the Bloc every third Thursday of the month featuring talented local artists, a beer + wine bar, food options and more. Tickets are $5.
36. Every first and third Thursday of the month Brennan’s in Marina Del Rey hosts their famous turtle races. Since 1974, this tradition brings these little speedsters out of their sanctuary (located in the bar) for an exciting game that support charities. Race starts at 9 p.m.
37. Free museum days: Japanese American National Museum (from 5 to 8 p.m.), MOCA Grand & MOCA Geffen (from 5 to 8 p.m.), Skirball Cultural Center (noon to 5 p.m.), Long Beach Museum of Art (3 to 8 p.m.) and USC Pacific Asian Museum (5 to 8 p.m.)

38. The 4th Annual Delicious Little Tokyo returns for a two-day culinary experience. Foodies will get to taste a wide variety of cuisines from Little Tokyo’s restaurants while partaking in food related walking tours, workshops, cooking demos, and more. Some events are free and some are ticketed.
39. Movie Under The Guns is a free movie night aboard the Battleship Iowa in San Pedro. This week they’ll screen Up. FREE
40. Head to Dodger Stadium to see the Boys in Blue take on the Miami Marlins and stay for the Friday Night Fireworks Show. (DISCOUNTED) via Goldstar
41. Yappy Hour 2019 comes to the Hammer Museum on Friday for a pet adoption party co-presented by Pug Nation and Mutt Hut Rescue. The event offers attendees the chance to adopt a new furry friend with cocktails, wine, and beer available for purchase. FREE
42. Old Pasadena Summer Cinema screens Enchanted at One Colorado. FREE
43. The Music Center’s Dance DTLA features live music and/or DJs paired with expert dance instructors providing beginner group dance lessons for attendees. Each night has a different dance theme. The series continues with Argentine Tango at Grand Park/Olive Court. Dance DTLA continues on select Fridays through August 30. FREE
44. The Silver Lake Picture Show screens Coco at Sunset Triangle Plaza.
45. The Los Angeles Zoo’s annual after-hours music series, Roaring Nights, is back for summer 2019. Come experience a party atmosphere featuring DJs, bands, a Silent Disco combined with animal talks and feedings plus a number of food trucks. Check for discounted tickets before making your purchase. 46. Sierra Madre Shakespeare Festival 2019 returns for its fifth year with the comedy “Much Ado About Nothing” at Sierra Madre Memorial Park. Guests are encouraged to bring blankets, lawn chairs, and picnics as they enjoy the show. FREE
47. The Hammer will screen two award-winning films shot in Rome as part of the series Runaway Hollywood: Global Production in the Postwar World. This Friday Roman Holiday and Three Coins In The Fountain will be screened.
48. Odd Nights At The Autry feature a collection of over 200 vendors, 20 gourmet food trucks, a beer garden, custom handmade treasures and live local bands.
49. Spend the season sipping wine during sunset hour at Barnsdall Art Park’s Friday Night Wine Party Series. Happening on the lawn of architectural gem the Hollyhock House, the evening features a fine selection of wines curated by Silverlake Wine, a live DJ and tours of the house. The series happens every Friday evening till September 6.
50. Summer Friday Night Drive-In at the Roadium returns every Friday evening from June 7 to August 30 to revive your favorite films in a classic 1950’s drive-in setting. The series continues with a screening of Selena.
51. Grand Central Market hosts Friday Night Flights this Friday starting at noon. The special includes a flight of drinks or bites from GCM vendors and a round trip ticket on the historic Angels Flight Railway right across the street for $15.
52. The Department of Beaches and Harbors presents Beach Movie Nights at Dockweiler Youth Center every Friday. This week they will screen Hotel Transylvania 3. FREE

Culina & Vinoteca at the Four Seasons Los Angeles at Beverly Hills hosts a HIGH SPIRITS Wine Tasting & Stand Up Comedy show featuring Patrick Ney this Thursday, July 18 in the Galleria del Vino of Culina & Vinoteca. Patrick Ney, a local comedian, writer and Sommelier is nationally recognized and has appeared on Comedy Central, Chelsea Lately and more. During the event Culina & Vinoteca Sommelier David Gary will host a guided blind tasting of three wines, while educating guests on how to taste wine like a true Sommelier, while Ney performs his comedy set in between the tastings providing guests with one entertaining Thursday.
