As cliche as it sounds my number one New Year’s resolution is establish a more concrete work out routine. Before you roll your eyes, it’s not as simple as simply trying to "get fit"; instead, I’m vowing to branch out in my fitness routine and try three new workouts that have always intimidated me. The workouts? Running, yoga and boxing. In order to work up the courage to lace up my sneakers and start a new routine, I’m first focusing on a matter that’s a bit more in my wheel house: what to wear to complement my new routines. Call it productive procrastination but studies show that when you have a stylish, new outfit to wear to your workouts, you’re more likely to be excited, motivated and stick to your new routine. Whether it’s a supportive sport bra for running, comfortable and flexible leggings for yoga or an edgy ensemble for boxing, half the fun of these workouts is going to be planning the outfits. I’d venture a guess that I am not alone in my love/hate relationship with running. While the health benefits are endless, it be tends to monotonous routine I dread. This year, instead of viewing it as a necessary evil, I’m focusing on all the good side effects: it’s a virtually free exercise that gets you outside, while also toning your entire body. Win, win, right? To get myself excited to pound the pavement I’m buying plenty of bright layering essentials to combat the dreary climate. This floral JoyLab legging and sports bra, paired with their crew neck sweatshirt should do the trick.
It may seem strange that I’m intimidated by yoga, since the idea behind the workout it is to be judgement free and zen but as someone who can barely touch their toes, contouring into pretzel shapes for 60 minutes is a scary thought. To make sure I’m as comfortable as possible (aside from only signing up for beginners classes) I’m dressing in JoyLab’s flattering Comfort V-Neck Sports Bra, their Front to Back Long Sleeve Top and their Comfort Side Tie Mid-Rise Capri Leggings.
Boxing is one of those workouts I’ve been dying to try for your but always chicken out last minute. The energy, loud pumping music, and intense workout have caused me to cancel a class last minute more than once. Not this year. I’m adopting a "fake it until I make it mentality" and dressing like an already seasoned boxer. My look will include plenty of shiny black prints, mesh detailing and a practical leather backpack to match.
