3 London Trends VB, Kate Middleton, and Alexa Chung Can’t Stop Wearing

There’s something about British girls and their fashion sense… Maybe it’s that certain poise, grace, and sophistication that we Americans always associate with the Brits, or maybe it’s the way they marry the traditional with the trendy, but we’re not too proud to admit that we love their style. For proof, just look to any red carpet roundup (such as the best of the Met Gala). You’ll see many Brits make our best dressed list and for good reason: They know their way around the fashion circuit.

There are three British celebs we’ve been keeping a close eye on as of late: Kate Middleton (yes, the Duchess of Cambridge), Victoria Beckham (who is fashion royalty in her own right), and Alexa Chung (the British It girl). All three of them have been making particularly chic fashion choices as of late, and while studying them, we’ve noticed a few key similarities. That’s right. We’ve been trend-spotting again. Here, Alexa Chung is pictured outside of the Erdem show wearing a budget-friendly linen-blend suit from H&M’s Studio Collection. She paired the breezy, beige suit with a ribbed black top, black belt, and Chanel sandals. (Unfortunately, the jacket is currently out of stock on the brand’s website, but you can still snag the Linen-Blend Pants, $119.)

If you would prefer to buy a full suit and not just the pants, opt for this beige number from ASOS, which features a similar collared blazer and breezy linen pants. The main difference between this and Chung’s H&M version is that the pants are cropped into culottes.

Victoria Beckham is no stranger to suits. She wears them regularly. In fact, they’ve become something of a signature over the past year or two. Here, she’s pictured at the Victoria Beckham x YouTube Fashion & Beauty After Party at London Fashion Week wearing a sleek black tuxedo suit.

The jacket VB wore appears to be the one from her collection. The single-breasted jacket is made from a blend of wool and mohair and features smooth, satin lapels. Sure, it’s an investment piece, but it’s quite timeless, so we say go for it.

Kate Middleton wore this cranberry-red, double-breasted blazer while visiting North Wales earlier this week. The rich, red shade and the round, gold buttons make this blazer look powerful and posh. In other words, it’s truly fit for a royal.

The exact blazer she wore was Philosophy di Lorenzo Serafini. The red is sold out almost everywhere (which is typical after the duchess is photographed wearing a specific piece), but the black version is still up for grabs (and on sale!).

Here, Beckham is pictured on the streets of NYC, wearing a suit and sheer blouse from her own line.

The sheer fabric and billowy silhouette of this Victoria Beckham blouse give us major ’60s vibes.

Yes, that’s right. Beckham wore a chic two-toned outfit not once but twice. Take heed from her look here, in which she layered a blue sweater over a vivid red collared shirt. Those white checked trousers are a nice touch, too, don’t you think?

This silk shirt is an easy piece to reach for when creating a variety of two-toned outfits. This shade of canary yellow contrasts perfectly with colors such as lilac purple, red, and powder blue. Try layering it under a colorful suit jacket or sweater.

Alexa Chung joined in on the two-tone trend at a London Fashion Week after-party, where she was photographed wearing this red-and-pink pleated dress by Emilia Wickstead.

This dress is one big contradiction since the colors are contrasting yet also complementary, and the style is modern yet also looks slightly ancient Greece–inspired. It sounds like an oxymoron; we know.

If Chung’s Emilia Wickstead dress is out of your budget or your color comfort zone, opt for this two-toned black-and-red midi dress. It has a similar cinched waist and pleated skirt, yet it’s less expensive and a little less expressive too.

Point collars—or collars that taper into a sharp point on either side of the neck—are trending in particular. Here, Kate Middleton wears one as a part of her Alessandra Rich Polka Dot Dress ($2088).

Another public outing, another exaggerated collar for Kate Middleton. Here, the collar of her Catherine Walker coat provides just the right kind of contrast against the charcoal-colored fabric.

You can get the same pointy-collar look on this contrasting color dress from Zara, which is only a fraction of the price of the other one. This one gives off a Wednesday Addams sort of vibe, doesn’t it?

Chung wore a dress with a lace-trimmed point collar to the Fashion Awards back in December. Its vivid goldenrod shade was particularly striking against the background greenery.

Get a similar—albeit much more casual—look by wearing this ’70s-inspired ribbed polo from Who What Wear’s own collection. The color is on point, and if you look closely, you’ll see a visible pointed collar, just like the ones these Brit It girls are wearing.

Finally, we have this recent photo of Victoria Beckham wearing not one London style trend but two. Notice the combination of her exaggerated flounced collar and tailored menswear-inspired suit.

VB’s look has us clamoring to wear this sheer chiffon shirt that comes complete with a giant neck bow. Sure, it’s not the same as Beckham’s pink, flounced number, but it’s just as chic. To us, this blouse looks like it was the result of a collaboration between Beckham, Gucci, and Harry Styles (and we mean that in the best way).
