On Saturday, the street formerly known as Rodeo Road officially became Barack Obama Boulevard. To mark the occasion, musicians, politicians, and community members turned out for a free block party, poignantly located at the boulevard’s intersection with Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard.
The assembled crowd were treated to performances by Kurupt, Yo Yo, and others, as well as speeches by Mayor Eric Garcetti and City Council President Herb Wesson.
“For every child who will drive down this street and see the name of the first black President of our country,” Wesson tweeted after the ceremony, “this boulevard will serve as a physical reminder that no goal is out of reach and that no dream is too big.”
