First realized by the recent GORE-TEX-infused layering pieces, Y-3 continues to invoke Yohji Yamamoto‘s concept of "air between the body" with a new selection of sailing-inspired gear. Partially departing from Yamamoto’s preferred all-black styling, the collection centers around sporty graphics and bright, summary colors.
An assortment of relaxed T-shirts inform the majority of the drop, each emblazoned with graphics that evoke spinnakers, a type of sail designed for swift downwind movement. Oversized branding, angular linework and bold Y-3 branding at the chest appears on each piece, with Yamamoto’s signature appearing infrequently.
A packable jacket also appears in the drop, sporting two chest pockets, a hood and tonal geometric graphics; the jacket can be squashed into a zippered parachute-style pouch for easy storage. Arguably the standout piece is the billowing Sailing Poncho, crafted from lightweight — yet water resistant — satin, offering zipper closure, an adjustable neck closure and more color-blocked prints.
The AOP collection is available via Y-3’s web store, physical outposts and, shortly, stockists like Farfetch. Take a closer look at select goods below.
Recently, Y-3’s Kusari II received a muted spring-ready colorway.
