Willy Chavarria unveiled a series of collaborative collections earlier this month, including a workwear line with Danish brand KANSAS and a soccer-inspired capsule with hummel. Now, the New York-based designer has revealed his full Fall/Winter 2019 lookbook, showcasing pieces from both partnerships alongside a number of Chicano-influenced garments.
Chavarria’s FW19 range emphasizes silhouette and fabric, anchored by exaggerated and oversized shapes that speak to the current resurgence of ’90s fashion. A simplified color palette of navy, black and gray is lightened up by acidic shades of neon yellow and green. Denim is featured as a leading material and found on the likes of matching sets, cropped jackets and baggy jeans. Knitwear adds a level of softness to the tops and bottoms, including chunky ribbed turtlenecks and colorblocked sweatpants. Though compression-style pants play a more minimal role, the fitted silhouette helps to balance out boxier proportions.
Key graphics include the Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez T-shirt and the Comanche Native American on a horse with a rifle. Meanwhile, select pieces from the hummel and KANSAS collections weave in a sporty thread throughout. Fine merino wool outerwear, including various pea coat options, finish off the looks.
