The Window opens this week on one of LA’s most expensive blocks
In these days of high rent and rising costs, a few new enterprising restaurant owners are skewing their prices the other way, opening up with a quick service model and sub-$10 price point on everyday fare like burgers and fried chicken sandwiches. In Downtown there’s the brand new Buddy’s, and now in Venice there’s a spot simply known as The Window.
The Window’s first reveal is happening this Thursday, but the folks behind the project are anything but mysterious. The takeaway spot comes by way of Jeff Goodman and the well-known American Gonzo Food Corp. The Paul Hibler-founded company is responsible not only for the Pitfire Pizza chain around Southern California but also Superba Food + Bread and the new Superba Snacks + Coffee, which opened in September in Pasadena.
The plan with the Window is to go effortlessly casual, offering takeaway options that range from a $3.95 cheeseburger ($5.95 for a double, or $7.95 for an Impossible Meat version) to a $7 grain bowl or salad and $2.50 It’s-It ice cream sandwich for dessert. It’s pretty hard to pull off a sub-$8 menu in expensive Venice, let alone on Rose Avenue, but the team is keeping costs low with its service model, only offering a few seats in the parking lot for diners.
And, in a way, the current Window iteration is really just value-added for the company as they continue to work on side-by-side steak and wine project American Beauty, located at the same address. That full service restaurant is still project out a ways, so in the meantime the kitchen can work up fried chicken sandwiches and salads for all to enjoy. The opening menu is below, and hours are 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily starting on Thursday.
