Last year, Vans launched its "Japan Fabrics Collection" with a range of indigo-dyed skate shoes followed by a second iteration with leaf, marble and paper detailing. A special printing process dubbed “MONALISA" was utilized to bring the collections to life with high-quality image transfers; Vans Japan revives the printing technique to deliver a patchwork upgrade of the "Comfort" Slip-On and Old Skool silhouettes.
The Slip-On and Old Skool‘s canvas uppers are covered with a graphic patchwork print, mixing natural blues, oranges, greens and reds with Vans’ iconic checkerboard pattern. Japan’s Komatsu Seiren Co. utilized state-of-the-art printing technology to produce precise, high quality patterns and images across the uppers for maximum visual interest, utilizing almost 17 million colors and an advanced controlling technology to digitally print onto fabric. OrthoLite insoles ensure that the sneakers offer all day comfort, with upgraded rubber soles for heightened durability.
Both pairs of Vans will be available August 21 on ABC-Mart’s website, ranging in price from ¥7,560 for the Slip-On to ¥8,640 for the Old-Skool (approx. $71 to $81 USD).
Recently, Vans’ Western branch debuted a set of logo-heavy Vault Slip-On silhouettes.
