If scheming a child’s way into a university is an overbearing mom move, then art is about to imitate life.
Felicity Huffman, the actress who pleaded guilty in May to paying $15,000 to help her daughter get a better SAT score, stars in the upcoming Netflix comedy, Otherhood. The movie’s release had been delayed because of Huffman’s involvement in the scandal, in which 30-plus wealthy parents were indicted for everything from bribery to fraud, but apparently enough time has passed that Netflix is cool with an August 2 release.
Huffman and costars Patricia Arquette and Angela Bassett play moms who feel forsaken by their respective sons’ thoughtlessness on Mothers’ Day, and decide to road trip to NYC to surprise them. Huffman appears to play “fancy mom who can’t cook.”
Meanwhile, Huffman’s sentencing date is set for September 13, according to Deadline. Prosecutors are reportedly seeking jail time, fines, and a year of probation.
