After a series of Shonen Jump collaborations, One Piece and Uniqlo UT have rejoined for another special T-shirt collection. The long-running manga, which began in 1997, was popular enough to spawn an anime series only two years after inception and with the ongoing TV series entering its 20th year of production, Uniqlo is serving up a range of commemorative shirts.
First aired on October 20, 1999, the anime series has faithfully followed the manga’s plot throughout its 800+ episodes, aside from a few notable special events like a 2013 crossover with Dragon Ball Z. The T-shirts center around fan-favorite characters like Luffy, Zoro, Sanji, Chopper and even Dracule Mihawk, Zoro’s swordsman master.
A series of neutral-toned shirts highlight the graphics emblazoned across the front of each, which include Luffy mid-strike, Zoro preparing to fight and a silhouette of "Red Hair" Shanks. Perhaps the most abstract design is a simple rendering of the X-shaped scar Luffy inflicted upon himself below his left eye.
The One Piece collection hits Uniqlo’s site and stores on May 10 in Japan, with special goods inspired by the One Piece Stampede movie coming in late July. Expect a Western release to shortly follow the Japanese drop.
Elsewhere, Uniqlo served up a capsule packed with Marvel heroes.
