A longtime platform for showcasing the latest and greatest in pop culture, UNIQLO has dedicated the newest drop under its UT collection to one of Japan’s most successful cultural exports: manga. The lookbook for this special capsule collection, entitled "MANGA UT," is debuting exclusively on HYPEBEAST.
Capturing the wealth of long-running franchises that fall under this genre, the capsule showcases designs inspired by a number of manga titles, including Naruto, Shonen Jump, Gin Tama, My Hero Academia, Boruto: Naruto Next Generations, Haikyu!!, The Prince of Tennis, Kuroko’s Basketball, Yu Yu Hakusho, and Hunter × Hunter. Meanwhile, the popularity of Shonen Jump is reflected in a whole ten designs dedicated to its colorful characters.
In conceiving the lookbook, we returned to the birthplace of anime – the Tokyo neighborhood of Kichijoji – with models Mael and Mateo Ken, evoking the aesthetic of the ‘80s and ‘90s during the heyday of the medium.
Take a look at the collection above and anticipate its launch on May 31; for more information, head to UNIQLO UT.
