A pristine 1954 Mercedes-Benz 300SL Gullwing in "Fire Engine Red" will be heading to Silverstone Auctions this summer. Supplied to Hoffman of New York in the ’50s, the vintage ‘Benz comes complete with the highly desirable belly pans that help the sportscar reach its top speed and sees a number of recent mechanical overhauls.
New brakes, a stainless steel exhaust, an upgraded sports camshaft and an overhauled gearbox feature alongside a completely rebuilt HK Engineering injection pump system, making for an excellently looked after 1954 Gullwing. The car in question also features a classic interior colorscheme of plush cream and tan leather with chrome accents, a detail which is carried throughout the car. Finished with a bright red lacquered dashboard, this particular model has been owned by the Lotus Team Manager, Peter Warr, and has raced and toured internationally.
With its illustrious history and sporting pedigree, this Mercedes-Benz 300SL Gullwing will be hitting the auction with an estimate between £850,000 – 1,000,000 GBP (approx. $1.1m – $1.3m USD). The car will head to Silverstone Auctions on July 27, with auctions being accepted in person, online and via telephone.
