BMW’s first mid-engine sports car, the M1, was a feat in joining together German engineering alongside Italian design. Initially designed for motorsport, the vehicle was built for competition, maintaining a futuristically-tinged tube-frame chassis and lightweight fiberglass body designed by Giorgetto Giugiaro — famous for his designs at nearly every major automobile manufacturer. Toting a 3.5 liter inline six, the car effectively had 273 brake horsepower and topped out at 162 MPH, and was initially slated for competition in the FIA Group 4 racing circuit.
The newly listed vehicle showcased in the gallery above is one of these M1s in immaculate condition — a vehicle that has gone through a plethora of overhauls and restoration to maintain its pristine shape, with an estimated $125,000 USD invested into the preservation of the vehicle’s black interior and white exterior, exhaust system, wheels, engine, and more. If you’re interested in owning a piece of sports car history, it is currently for sale via Canepa.
