Spring is in the air and we’re gearing up for a weekend full of fun stuff to do. From a pot party featuring teeny goats to celebration of a particular berry, here are the best things to do in L.A. this weekend.
The Other Art Fair
Through March 31
The U.K.-born showcase is back and brings with it a penchant for under-the-radar artists—plus music by Dublab presented by Ace Hotel and Chulita Vinyl Club Los Angeles and artwork from Homeboy Industries’ Art Heals program. See it all at the Reef’s Magic Box, and keep your eyes peeled for this year’s guest artist, L.A. tattoo legend Mister Cartoon.
The MisMatch Game
March 29 & 30
Podcaster Dennis Hensley hosts this send-up of classic dating show The Match Game with funny people impersonating famous people. For the show’s 15th anniversary, Jackie Beat (as Bea Arthur), Sam Pancake (as Lisa Whelchel), Daniele Gaither (as Wendy Williams), and many others will be on hand for a pair of shows at the L.A. LGBT Center.
Knott’s Boysenberry Festival
March 29-April 28
Kiddos on spring break? Then head to Knott’s Berry Farm to honor the fruit that Knott’s claims to have invented. Taste-test more than 75 boysenberry-flavored foods and beverages, which in the past have ranged from questionable couplings (quesadillas) to a perfect marriage (Icees).
Grease ’50s Prom
March 30
Usually, Street Food Cinema is known for outdoor movies, but this weekend they’re taking over the Million Dollar Theatre in downtown Los Angeles for a special screening of Grease with food vendors, specialty drinks, a DJ, and even Pink Lady Jan herself, Jamie Donnelly. Start practicing the Hand Jive now.
Magic Goat Dance Party
March 30
It’s not 4/20 yet, but small-faced goats don’t give a dang. Party Goats L.A., a company that brings pygmy goats to parties, is teaming up brand Grassfed L.A. for a canna-friendly dance party. Goats named Spanky, Pippin, Doc, and Gizmo will not be exposed to vapor or loud music, press materials promise, but they will be available for photo (duh) and for blowing your stoned mind with their tiny hooves.
Smile, You’re On Camera
March 30 & 31
Iconoclastic Long Beach rapper Vince Staples hits the Novo in support of his third album, the radio-show-themed FM! (hailed by NPR as “a meta-gangsta reflection on the popular consumption of black nihilism as peak entertainment in 2018”). When Staples takes the stage, his performance is sure to be as powerful as the LP’s 11 tracks.
