Another weekend of summer fun is in store. Start the day by reading our Best of L.A. issue, and then head out into the world for a pizza pop-up, a horror triple feature, and more.
The Raconteurs
Friday, July 26
After an eight-year absence, Jack White’s grungy power-pop quartet with cofrontman Brendan Benson is back and ferocious as ever on new rave-ups like “Sunday Driver.”
Nothing Cheezy
Friday-Sunday, July 26-28 (continues through August 25)
For once, a pop-up that isn’t just an Instagram trap. This so-called “self-aware selfie tour” at Think Tank Gallery downtown features installations by a dozen artists including Cheap Slasher Films, Nina Palomba, and Berk Visual, each of whom designed a space dedicated to pizza and “greasy 1990s teenage dirtbag vibes,” as our own Brittany Martin put it. Bonus: there’s actual pizza from local pizzerias. This weekend, Delicious Pizza is supplying the goods.
Once Upon a Time in the LBC
Saturday & Sunday, July 27 & 28
Snoop Dogg, YG, the Game, Blueface, Bone Thugs, and more descend on Queen Mary Park in Long Beach for this two-day music fest, that also features a tribute to Nipsey Hussle. Both days are technically sold out, but you can request tickets from people attempting to sell them (and vice versa) on the website Lyte.
SELA Arts Festival at the L.A. River
Saturday, July 27
Head to South Gate for this celebration of community and the L.A. River—in the L.A. River. The family-friendly fest features live music, community theater, art installations, vendors, food, and more.
Camp Fangoria
Saturday, July 27
If a ten-hour horror triple feature is not your worst nightmare, pack your bags for Camp Fangoria at the Montalban. Besides screenings of The Burning, Sleepaway Camp, and Evil Dead 2, there’s live podcast tapings, games, and a first-person live horror experience called ALONE.
Ban.do’s Power Color Pop-up
Saturday & Sunday, July 27 & 28
Lifestyle brand Ban.do is hosting a pop-up shop this weekend, and offering power color portraits shot by Lily Glass. Forty-five bucks gets you a discount on the brand’s planners and more, and a reservation to sit for a photo shoot and walk away with a snap of you at your most powerful.
Queen Nation
Sunday, July 28
If anyone can compete with Rami Malek’s Oscar-winning turn as the late Freddie Mercury, it’s Gregory Finsley. The front man of this long-running Queen tribute band channels Freddie’s soaring vocals and strutting stage presence with uncanny accuracy.
