When it comes to Easter brunch, we don’t usually think of getting Spanish food, but Hong Kong’s La Rambla has completely changed our minds. The restaurant has just launched a "Sunday En La Boqueria Brunch" experience that features a Catalan-inspired menu, free-flowing drinks and even a post-brunch live DJ set on the terrace. For Easter weekend, La Rambla will have a special menu as well as entertainment for little ones such as an Easter egg hunt and balloon animals.
From a "HUEVOS HUEVOS!!" egg station to three different types of paella, this week’s "HYPEBAE Brunch" is anything but boring. Read on to see what we thought of the meal.
THIS PLACE IS PERFECT FOR: Bigger groups or anyone looking for a livelier environment. Whether it’s a day out with the family or a weekend catch-up with friends, these dishes are made to be shared and have conversations over.
WHAT YOU SHOULD ORDER: La Rambla’s Sunday brunch is a set menu that includes a buffet spread of cured meats, Spanish cheeses, Iberico ham, salads and desserts. Of course, it wouldn’t be brunch without eggs, so there’s also an egg station for tortillas, broken eggs with chorizo, slow cooked eggs with potato foam and eggs your way (scambled, sunny side up, etc.). The restaurant’s most well-known tapa is its "Bikini" which is a grilled cheese sandwich with truffle and jamón.
The meal also comes with one item from the Josper Grill, and we recommend the mouth-watering charcoal-grilled tiger prawn. For the paella selection, you can choose from classic, squid ink or vegetarian. We went for the squid ink, which was perfectly cooked and topped with fresh clams and calamari. The main course is a sharing dish of either traditional suckling pig, grilled turbot or waygu beef cheek, and we chose the suckling pig which was roasted Segovian style with mushrooms.
Finish the meal with "Algo Dulce" (something sweet), and order a Spanish cake or Helado Nitro Ice Cream Sundae which the staff creates for you table-side, nitrogen and all. The entire meal is $550 HKD (approximately $70 USD) and you can add free-flowing drinks for an additional $350 HKD (approximately $45 USD).
OUR FAVORITE DRINK: Go for a classic gin and tonic mixed table-side or a fruity sangria.
