Kylie Jenner recently expanded her beauty empire with a new skincare brand, Kylie Skin. The range includes all of the products needed for a basic routine including an exfoliator which has garnered a lot of criticism on social media. Jenner describes Kylie Skin‘s walnut face scrub as a "gentle" product that can be used two to three times a week. She claims that "some walnut face scrubs" are too abrasive but assures her audience that the Kylie Skin iteration is crafted from finely-milled walnut powder and ginseng extract. One of the most popular walnut face scrubs on the market by St.Ives has been at the center of controversy in the beauty community for the possibly harmful effects of its popular scrub. A 2016 lawsuit against St. Ives claimed that the product caused "micro tears" in the skin, exacerbated inflammation and resulted in sensitive skin.
Twitter beauty experts MakeupForWOC and LaBeautyologist pointed out the similarities between the products and warned their followers about the damage that could be caused on the skin. The latter is a Los Angeles-based esthetician who recommends chemical exfoliants as opposed to manual ones which can cause set major skin setbacks. The skincare brand has yet to respond to the backlash. The Kylie Skin line is set to launch on May 22. Will you be trying out items from the line?
