Architecture studio Snøhetta — the company behind everything from an underwater restaurant to an energy-positive hotels in the Arctic circle — has made the move into furniture through its new collaboration with Nordic Comfort Products.
The S-1500 chair was presented during Stockholm Design Week, and sees the Norwegian company continue to develop its sustainability focus. The chair is constructed from waste plastic and steel that has been recycled from fish farming companies in northern Norway. The chair’s design is modelled on the R-48 chair, designed by Norwegian modernist Bendt Winge in the 1960s.
Snøhetta’s S-1500 chair is intended to be used in public institutions, and the studio has announced that it is the first of many more sustainability-focused projects in the near future.
