Rowing Blazers has debuted its spring/summer 2019 lookbook. The recently released images give a glimpse into two of its most recent collaborators: American footwear brand Sperry and Japanese clothing brand and retailer BEAMS.
Rowing Blazers has titled the latest collection "The Joy of (Not) Fitting In" in homage to those who break the status quo. "From childhood, we’re programmed to fit in with one tribe or another: jocks, nerds, preps, punks, artists, surfers, the so-called cool kids, whatever," explains founder Jack Carlson. "Then at some point, hopefully, you reject these labels and stop trying to be a cookie-cutter person — and you take the time to learn about some of the cool things from all these worlds. As a brand, we reject labels like this, because we think the most interesting people are the ones who don’t fit in."
For him, this attitude manifests itself in the form of vertically-striped schoolboy soccer shirts, appliquéd number T-shirts, and colorful wide-legged pants — all of which maintain Rowing Blazer’s preppy, tongue-in-cheek aesthetic. There’s also a Japanese-woven Gordon tartan used across jackets, pants and shorts.
By the looks of it, the footwear partnership includes Sperry’s signature boat shoe and canvas sneakers, updated for men and women with bright shades native to Rowing Blazers. Perhaps the boldest options are a series of lace up sneakers in out-of-the-box patterns and color combinations. Multi-colored stripes, green, blue, and yellow tartan, and mismatched pairs are just some of the teased variations.
The new collection will begin dropping on Thursday, March 14 online and at the Rowing Blazers NYC store.
In other Rowing Blazers news, the brand also recently collaborated with New York City dim sum restaurant Nom Wah Tea Parlor.
