Japan’s READYMADE has served up a bespoke pair of handmade shorts for none other than illustrious artist Takashi Murakami. Like the shorts crafted for Just Don and Maxfield/BAPE, the exclusive shorts are informed by comfort, with a major color upgrade by way of Murakami’s signature smiling flowers.
As usual, basketball shorts inspire READYMADE’s design, with an elastic waist and drawstring, colorfully-trimmed hems and two zippered rear pockets to add functionality. The shell is crafted from READYMADE’s signature repurposed army tent fabric, contrasting against the bright and colorful flower patches. Murakami’s signature appears on top of the flowers on the front of the shorts in gold, lending an extra-personalized touch.
To be fair, it hasn’t been confirmed that the shorts were actually a gift — Murakami may have custom-ordered the goods himself. However, READYMADE designer Yuta Hosokawa’s caption ("For @takashipom. Thank you") seems to imply that they were simply a labor of love. View the shorts in detail via READYMADE’s Instagram post below.
