Paris Fashion Week has come to an end, with Louis Vuitton closing off the eight-day long week of shows and presentations. Last season, Nicolas Ghesquière presented a range inspired by technology and the future, and this time around the designer settled for inspiration coming from the age of social media, expression, subcultures and ’80s references.
The designer took to the Louvre museum to present his Fall/Winter 2019 range, with a set built to replicate the samous Centre Pompidou in the fourth arrondissement. As guests entered, pipes in bold colors were all around, symbolizing “a place where expression is free to be,” which Ghesquière told Vogue. When it comes to Louis Vuitton, the designer has made a huge shift in aesthetics by presenting a series of bold and daring pieces, and the customers seem to love it. With an eye for the unconventional, Nicolas Ghesquière experimented with silhouettes, shapes and textures to create a mosaic of colors that was the FW19 range. Before the show LV also tapped Indiya Moore for a quirky video teaser, all with an ’80s themed vibe which got us all a quick preview of the full collection.
As the collection unfolded, we saw broad shoulders inspired by ’80s fashion, as well as ruffled dresses and blouses, double-denim jumpsuits and large statement accessories. A key item from the range was the sleek leather hats models were wearing, which were shown in both black and black-and-white iterations, all in a check pattern which was carried through the full collection. Pops of pink, blue, yellow and green stood out in Ghesquière’s latest collection, proving that he’s the man of the hour with his imaginative, yet luxurious creations.
