Back in fall of 2017, Nick Murphy (formerly known as Chet Faker) released a single titled "Medication." Now, about a year and a half later, the multi-talented, award-winning musician is back with another new track and plans for another full-length studio album.
Specifically, Murphy is debuting a new single known as "Sanity" alongside its visual component, which was put together by director BabyBaby. The "Sanity" video was filmed in the Canary Islands, while the song itself was constructed at Rick Rubin´s Shangri-La studio.
"Sanity" is being released in support of Nick Murphy’s sophomore album and his first full-length project in five years, Run Fast Sleep Naked. The follow-up to Nick Murphy’s 2014 debut LP Built on Glass, Run Fast Sleep Naked was co-produced by Dave Harrington and put together during a long period of intense introspection and thorough self-reflection; during its creation, Murphy came face-to-face with his own motivations for making and being an artist, and became inspired to make "music that empowers and elevates each listener to a more exalted version of themselves, and ultimately undoes a certain emotional suppression imposed from the outside world." As a result of that extraordinary journey, Murphy ended up with a body of work that was a "hypnotically candid document of that searching, an album equally informed by constant questioning and steadily arriving at fragments of truth."
Run Fast Sleep Naked was recorded at multiple locales across the world, although the majority of its actual recording happened at Brookyn’s Figure 8. Over 15 different musicians and an entire orchestra were also enlisted to bring Nick Murphy’s upcoming full-length to life.
"It’s almost like I was finding different shapes and colors from around the world, and then bringing them back and putting them all together," Murphy shares via an official media statement. "If you sit in one space for a long period of time, you get settled and stop experiencing the world in a new way. There’s a kind of power in leaping into the void without set structures and systems in place."
