New Glassell Park Development Could Bring Up the Eastside Neighborhood’s Dining Profile

Mh Zh, Solarc Brewing, and Bar Bandini go into a prime corner space along Eagle Rock Boulevard

The southwestern stretch of Eagle Rock Boulevard is starting to change rather rapidly, as mixed-use condominiums have already taken control of the northern portion near Highland Park. Next up for the once-quiet Glassell Park community? A bar from Echo Park’s Bar Bandini team, a brewery run by nomadic Solarc Brewing, and (likely) a restaurant from the folks behind Mh Zh in Silver Lake.

The trio of tenants first signed on to the project last summer, but news has been slow to trickle out as the group worked with the community, neighborhood council, and landlord to make sure everyone was on the same page about what’s to come. There’s still a lot to be finalized later, from full food concepts to opening dates, but the deal is definitely happening.

Eater has confirmed with Archie Carey of Solarc that indeed he will be taking over some prime real estate in the building, which had previously been listed by Industry Partners. There’s even a video on the Solarc feed of some skateboarding happening inside the construction space.

Eater has also confirmed with Mh Zh owner Conor Shemtov that he has potential plans to put in a new restaurant at the corner space, and that it may not be a direct representation of his Middle Eastern/Israeli menu in Silver Lake. The space, for one, is much, much bigger than the original, with a wide indoor dining room and plans for a bar. As for Bar Bandini, last fall reps denied that they are heading into the space, though City Planning paperwork says at least two of the owners (Michael Lippman, Joshua Weinstein) indeed are. Eater has also confirmed the Bandini team’s involvement with a number of other outside sources.

So now on to timing. The place is largely still a shell, with a couple of other retail spaces to be filled in as well. But, depending on the neighborhood and the landlord, things should hopefully begin to pick up pace rather rapidly, leading to an ideal first opening later this year.
