Japan’s NEIGHBORHOOD is no stranger to a bit of military inspiration, having spent much of its 25-year heritage bridging the gap between streetwear, workwear and militaria. For Fall/Winter 2018, its training sneaker-inspired G.R Hi enjoyed a fleece-lined remake, and Spring/Summer 2019 sees the versatile shoe re-emerge in much lighter iterations.
Offered in olive drab and monochrome colorways, the shoe boasts plenty of NEIGHBORHOOD branding across its 10oz cotton canvas uppers. A bold-face logo sinks into the medial midsole, while the outside of the ankle is emblazoned with more detailed descriptors that include the brand’s founding year and the sneaker’s stock number.
Tonal laces, heel pull tabs and a textured rubber toecap do justice to the G.R Hi’s workmanlike inspiration, while a NEIGHBORHOOD patch on the tongue utilizes the brand’s familiar logo stylization. Contrasting white outsoles (black on the predominantly white pair) complete the versatile trainers.
