‘I busied myself so I wouldn’t have to eat alone’
Meghan Markle is a breath of fresh air for the royal family, from breaking protocol to make feminist speeches on her first ever royal tour to famously walking herself down the aisle.
This week, the statement in question that was made focused on Meghan’s biracial upbringing, as an old blog post from her now defunct blog, The Tig, resurfaced.
In the post, which was taken down when she became a royal, Meghan opened up about the struggles she faced in her teens and twenties.
‘My teens were even worse [than my twenties] – grappling with how to fit in, and what that even meant,’ the post reportedly reads, via The Express. ‘My high school had cliques: the black girls and white girls, the Filipino and the Latina girls. Being biracial, I fell somewhere in between.’
She continued: ‘So everyday during lunch, I busied myself with meetings – French club, student body, whatever one could possibly do between noon and 1pm – I was there. Not so that I was more involved, but so that I wouldn’t have to eat alone.’
While heartbreaking, the Duchess has been commended for speaking out on the subject, with her words sure to have inspired girls and boys struggling with their own identities across the world.
You go, Meghan!
