KAWS is launching two concurrent exhibitions at the National Gallery of Victoria in Melbourne, Australia this fall. The first presentation entitled “Companionship in the Age of Loneliness” will see the Brooklyn-based artist unveil both archival and new original artworks that evoke “generosity, support for others and the deep need we have for companionship,” said the institute in a statement. Highlights include his soon-to-be-largest bronze Companion sculpture, paintings that portray his signature interpretations of pop culture cartoons, and a series of life-sized sculptural figures.
The second exhibition entitled “Playtime” will be designed especially for children. The whimsical installment will spotlight KAWS’ creative methods such as sourcing imagery from popular culture as well as his development of toys and art objects. This section’s design will be reminiscent of the BFF character that features his trademark crisscross eyes, and plush royal blue fur.
Both exhibitions will run through September 20, 2019, to March 20, 2020. Visit NGV Melbourne’s official website to purchase tickets priced between $10 USD and $45 USD.
In other international shows, take a look inside Pharrell and Japanese artist Mr.’s collaborative “Call to Action” exhibition in Paris.

I was never good at filling sketch books but it’s nice to open one and see drawings I forgot about. This one is from 2013 and has a few ink drawings. Going through some stuff for an exhibition opening at @ngvmelbourne this September.. #KAWS #NGV
