German timepiece maker Junghans has decided to honor the centenary anniversary of the Bauhaus school — an institution the goes to the core of Junghans — with its most fitting model that celebrates a Bauhaus legend: Max Bill, who himself studied at the Dessau Bauhaus school.
The special edition is based entirely on the brand’s Max Bill Chronoscope, with the name 100 Jahre Bauhaus tagged onto the end, signifying the focus of the tribute. Using the model as a blueprint, Junghans created the watch in colors inspired by the Dessau building. A red date window as well as minute and hour hand reflect the red highlights on the school building, while the anthracite case and grey calf strap follow the overall color scheme of the German structure’s exterior, a nod to Bauhaus architecture’s heavy preference for concrete. Build-wise, the casing is constructed of stainless steel, and the transparent caseback features an engraving of the Dessau building itself. The 40mm watch then houses a J880.2 automatic Calibre with a 48-hour power reserve and a 30-minute chronograph, finished with a water-resistance of 30 meters.
