Josh Dean releases the video for his new single "DropDead," a pop and funk-infused track that is perfect for the summer. The colorful visual finds Josh Dean dancing while being surrounded by talented dancers and choreographers. However, the inspiration behind the record wasn’t as bright as the track.
"The concept behind ‘DropDead’ originally came from processing the sudden death of my close relative," shared Dean to HYPEBEAST. "Although the idea was born from a dark sentiment, it was our (Daytrip, Russ Chell, Bayli, Reef & I – The Producers) first time creating together so we all saw it as an opportunity to repurpose that sadness and create something joyful. We merged that sentiment along with the many musical influences we were all inspired by at the time to create a song about giving it your all whether it be on a dance floor or in light of a difficult hardship."
Dean is a singer, songwriter and visual artist, who most recently wrote on Janelle Monae’s GRAMMY-nominated album, Dirty Compute. An accomplished graphic designer, Josh has designed cover artwork for the likes of producers like Maejor & Bryan-Michael Cox before getting hired as Art Director for Wondaland, where Janelle Monae & Jidenna discovered his passion and raw talent for music.
