Jay-Z’s Roc Nation Writes the Blueprint for a Dark New LA Supper Club

Roc Nation client Jeremy Fall opens Mixtape along Beverly Boulevard

Serial operator Jeremy Fall is at it again, this time with a hip new corner spot called Mixtape. As the name suggests, the pan-cultural restaurant plays on Fall’s time in the nightlife industry, while the menu offers a cross-section of specialties from everyday Caesar salads to whole Cornish hen over saffron rice.

Mixtape takes over the longstanding BLD space on Beverly Boulevard, which for a brief flicker in time was a rotisserie chicken and whiskey concept called Rye Fox. That didn’t last long, and now Fall is in to oversee the new place, from the everyday food to the art on the walls and the music playing through the speakers. The dining room is dark and inviting, with a long run of banquette seating and lots of low lighting surrounding the brass bar. There’s a patio out front, and lots of mixed-media artwork, from photographs to paintings to neon signs and sculpture, throughout. As the LA Times notes, Fall is the first restaurant operator to be signed to Jay-Z’s management label Roc Nation, and that company also has a stake in Mixtape.

Meanwhile, Mixtape’s menu plays more than just the hits, weaving from pork belly starter bites and crudite through salads, roasted vegetables, and a Nashville-style hot corn dog with fried cod inside. Expect a burger, steak, Cornish hen, and jerk-style fried chicken sandwich as well. The opening menus across dinner, dessert, drinks, and brunch are below.

Jeremy Fall’s Mixtape opens Tuesday, keeping hours from 6 p.m. to midnight Tuesday through Thursday, with a late night happy hour and food menu starting at 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday, the restaurant runs until 1 a.m., and Saturday/Sunday there’s brunch from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
