Fresh off an appearance on Mereba’s The Jungle Is the Only Way Out album, J.I.D revisits his DiCaprio 2 project from last November for his latest music video. Notably, J.I.D decides to give "Off Da Zoinkys" the visual treatment, looking to the 1973 film The Long Goodbye for inspiration. The "Off Da Zoinkys" clip stars Ansel Elgort and features Scott Lazer as its director.
"Y’all know I’ma major movie connoisseur so the amazing @scott_lazer and I decided to draw inspiration from The Long Goodbye (1973), directed by Robert Altman. @ansel played Elliott Gould’s character, Philip Marlowe, a private detective," J.I.D explained on Instagram, taking to the social media platform to share his thoughts on his new video. "I’m excited for u just to see it and hear your perspectives and shit on the parallels between the movie, the video and the song."
"Lookin’ at God, lookin’ for leaders, lookin’ for keys / Look at the pain in your eyes, n***a, look where we been / Look at our wins, look at our sins, and look at our skin," J.I.D raps on "Off Da Zoinkys. "I’ve been on a frenzy binge tryna get me a Benz / And then your fuzzy ass dance wanna fuck up the ends / Oh God, no, where are my friends? / Lord forgive me, yeah, I need to repent / Mind blurred, need to lay off the drugs / Yeah God, they ain’t prayin’ enough / N***as dyin’, we ain’t sayin’ enough / Cops fire, stockpiling rottweiler / Tell my little n***as lay off the stuff / Ronald Reagan, I can’t thank him enough / Nah, I’m playin’, n***a racist as f*ck."
