Flour tortillas, eggs, and margaritas for all of Playa Vista
Proper Texas-inspired breakfast tacos will make their debut this weekend in Playa Vista, as HomeState heads to the Westside for the first time. The buzzy Los Feliz spot was a one-off neighborhood staple for years before expanding to Highland Park in 2018, and now the restaurant is coming for the beach cities.
Much like the Highland Park space, this new HomeState will offer more than just breakfast basics and handmade flour tortillas, pushing equally into cocktails and beer. That means lots of margaritas and palomas, as well as Lone Star brews for those truly Texas-minded types. Other than that it’s all about the breakfast tacos, queso, migas, and shredded brisket, available all day long.
The arrival of HomeState to Playa Vista is certainly good news for the tech workers and longtime locals in the area, though they aren’t without general Mexican food competition considering the many Oaxacan restaurants populating the Westside. What’s more, chef Josef Centeno is soon to bring his own Tex-Mex sensibilities west, flipping his BacoShop in Culver City into Amacita, an offshoot of Downtown restaurant Bar Ama.
