‘He met Meghan Markle, and it’s fallen off a cliff’…
But while most fans are happy for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, there are some who like to find fault with them, with Nigel Farage recently emerging as one of these.
Yes, the Brexit Party leader made headlines this week as he was overheard making some pretty controversial remarks about the royal family during Sydney’s Conservative Political Action Conference’s gala dinner.
And while the Queen was immune from the criticism, with Farage calling her ‘an amazing, awe-inspiring woman’ who we are ‘bloody lucky to have’, those who didn’t get off so lightly included Prince Charles, the Queen Mother and the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.
According to The Guardian who heard partial recording of Saturday night’s event, Meghan Markle was one of Farage’s main concerns, with the controversial figure stating that he thought Harry had ‘fallen off a cliff’ since meeting his wife.
‘All I can say is Charlie Boy is now in his 70s… may the Queen live a very, very long time,’ Farage was reportedly overheard saying. ‘Well, if I want the Queen to live a long time to stop Charlie Boy becoming king, I want Charlie Boy to live even longer and William to live forever to stop Harry becoming king.’
‘Terrifying!,’ he allegedly continued. ‘Here was Harry, here he was this young, brave, boisterous, all male, getting into trouble, turning up at stag parties inappropriately dressed, drinking too much and causing all sorts of mayhem. And then, a brave British officer who did his bit in Afghanistan. He was the most popular royal of a younger generation that we’ve seen for 100 years. And then he met Meghan Markle, and it’s fallen off a cliff.’
The royal family has not responded.
