Tom Sachs recently launched one of his largest “Tea Ceremony” presentations that is currently taking place inside the premier Tokyo Opera City Art Gallery in the Japanese capital. Although Sachs is not a seasoned practitioner of the ancient ritual as he revealed in our exclusive interview, the American artist has spent more than 20 years studying the complex, traditional practice.
For the exhibition, Sachs presents original works made this year including his Comin’ Home, McDonald’s, Untitled, and Tres Genereaciones pieces on canvas. Not to mention, the artist hosted public tea ceremony demonstrations when the show launched on April 20.
“This is our fourth exhibition of the ‘Tea Ceremony.’ It’s a great honor to be invited here and there will be a bunch of new work at the Tokyo Opera City Art Gallery. It’s a prime spot in Shinjuku,” Sachs told HYPEBEAST. “It’s big and there’s a lot of care to the environment. I’m working with a great art production team called Tokyo Studio that’s helping us install and build a koi pond.”
Tour the exhibition above and then head over to Tom Sachs’ website to view more projects. “Tea Ceremony” at Tokyo Opera City Art Gallery will be open to the public until June 23.
In other international exhibitions, StolenSpace Gallery in London will launch a solo exhibition with acclaimed Spanish artist, Ricardo Cavolo.
