Disney’s upcoming Avengers campus | Disney
Plus a Pasadena food crawl, and the secret to aging fish properly
More branding
Disneyland is doubling down on revamping its Orange County park, with plans to add an entire campus dedicated to all things Avengers, beginning next year. As TimeOut notes, the sprawling new area at California Adventure, which takes over the former A Bug’s Life space, will not only include new rides but also new food, including a spot called Pym’s Test Kitchen (a nod to Ant-Man’s Pym Particles) that reportedly will work on making food either ridiculously small, or ridiculously big. Expect the first leg of the new Avengers area to open next year.
Sumo still rules
Sumo Dog has scaled down from its former restaurant locations, but is still out here adding ways for diners to reach them. The company has a new permanent cart at the Irvine Spectrum, with more to come in Laguna Beach, Playa Vista, and Hollywood, among others. They’ll also be working a cart in Koreatown on Sundays in September, in the former Beer Belly space, from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m.
Walk and drink
WinePas, a food and wine crawl around Pasadena, lands on September 19. The $49 event includes a variety of local vendors, including Bone Kettle, Maestro, WeOlive, and more.

Cookie season
There’s a new cookie shop to know about in West Hollywood. Insomnia Cookies, a national chain with little presence in Southern California, is jumping to a new space inside of the retail development anchored by Pavilions grocery store, right off Santa Monica Boulevard. The shop is open now.
For a good cause
Check out this fun charity event going down in Manhattan Beach on Sunday, September 8. The daytime throwdown includes a variety of beer, wine, and other alcohol vendors, plus food from places like Zinc, Sausal, Locale 90, and more, with proceeds benefitting the area badminton club’s junior foundation.
Beer and questions
The Smog City Brewing team is hosting a murder mystery night this Wednesday. The evening affair runs two hours and costs just over $75, but that of course includes the teamed-up fun as well as a full dinner and beer pairings.
Looking at seafood differently
Sherman Oaks seafood and coffee spot the Joint is not afraid to do things a little bit different. Owner Liwei Liao has been part of a family fishing tradition for generations, and he’s taken to aging his fish inside the restaurant and marketplace, not just because it tastes better, but because it challenges the traditional notion of what fish can and should be.
