Winter is notorious for being a less-than-ideal fashion season. First, the climate requires ample bundling that can limit one’s styling options; and second, the shorter days and grayer skies can tempt one to stick to a similarly dark color palette. But celebrities on the red carpet this week proved that January doesn’t need to be a month marked by heavy coats and neutral tones. Sure, lots of them cheated the system by being in warmer areas like Los Angeles, but even those who found themselves in chilly New York and London found ways to inject some bright color into their looks.
Sarah Paulson provided perhaps the most delightful example of this, donning a bright pink, green and yellow Prada gown with flame embellishments for the London premiere of her new film “Glass.” In Los Angeles, Emily Blunt adopted neon hues of the same color palette in the form of a Roksanda dress featuring spray-paint-like deposits of irregular color. Meanwhile, Gemma Chan and Laura Harrier opted for different shades of yellow in Erdem and Altuzarra, respectively, while Yalitza Aparicio went for a more subdued shade of burnt orange in her Mulberry ensemble.
