The ever-popular Boba Guys are on the move once again, jumping from their first Los Angeles-area location in Culver City to some quiet new digs on Beverly Boulevard in Historic Filipinotown. The new storefront is open now, doing limited service hours from noon to 6 p.m., Monday through Friday.
Boba Guys only started up this second location last week, and have not yet formally announced the addition on their popular social media channels.
The new space is an extension of Rideback Ranch, a buzzy production company campus on Beverly that’s helmed by Dan Lin. While the expansion has been known for some time — it was actually the first lease signed in Los Angeles for Boba Guys owners Andrew Chau and Bin Chen — the opening slid under the holiday season radar.
Chau told Eater yesterday that the plan for this new Boba Guys is to be something more than just a bubble tea shop. The company is already making its own tapioca balls domestically out of a Northern California production facility, and has successfully used marketing and social media to bring in younger demographics and expand the knowledge base of boba overall. High-visibility locations like the one at the Platform project have helped, and with the Historic Filipinotown address the company will focus more heavily on coffee drinks and specialty drinks like a pandan mojito latte.
Look for a grand opening weekend for Boba Guys on January 12, with all of the weekends proceeds going towards a still-unnamed local charity. Chau says that other Boba Guys locations are in the works around Los Angeles still, including a possible full-fledged restaurant down the line.
