Since Amazon was founded in 1994, it has become a household name. Everybody knows Amazon, including people who don’t shop online. Over the years, it has ventured far away from books. These days you find products of any description, be it groceries, technology, stationery or games (the list goes on, of course).
Why is Amazon that successful? Because it is all about convenience. The items are delivered to your door and delivery time is quick. The customer service (should you need help) is great.
But what it absolutely puts it ahead of many competitors is the fact that, even if what you want to buy is a bit more expensive than elsewhere, you can add other items to my shopping basket from a completely different category. Think a book and replacement shoelaces, or a plant pot and a pair of headphones. Even if the item you want isn’t cheaper, Amazon can still save you time because you don’t have to go to several retailers.
But can you also save money shopping on Amazon? There are many ways, but some are more obvious than others.
Compare prices within the Amazon family
Now, this is where it gets particularly interesting because you are not comparing prices with a competitor but with different Amazon entities. We all know that Amazon is an enormous multi-national, but have you ever thought to compare prices across Amazon European stores?
It is possible, all you need to do is scroll right to the bottom of the page and change what country’s page you want to look at. Granted – that might take a while. With websites like www.hoteudeals.com, it is easy, though. All you need to do here is enter the product name and the website will search and compare Amazon’s prices across Europe in the United Kingdom, Germany, Spain, France and Italy.
A Blink XT Home Security Camera, on the other hand, would set you back 319.99 Euros if you purchased this off Amazon in France, Germany or Italy but if you bought this from Amazon Spain, it would only cost 191.99 Euros.
Say you are looking for a present for a 7-year old who would just love Lego Boost. If you live in Great Britain, for example, Amazon charges about 151 Euros while French Amazon has this priced at 119.99 Euros at the time of writing.
Sign up for Amazon Prime
If you are not yet familiar with Prime and assume it will just save you money on postage, think again, because it is a lot more than that. As a Prime customer, you also get a subscription for Prime Video, Music and Twitch. You can even save photos in the cloud, get in on lightning deals sooner and every now and then there’s Prime Day (a sale exclusive to Prime customers).
Yes, 69 Euros a year sounds like a lot of money, but if you buy from Amazon regularly, the savings will soon add up!
Sign up for Amazon Pantry
This is another perk for Prime customers but one that warrants a lot more attention to those of us looking to save money. Amazon Pantry is essentially an online supermarket run by Amazon where you will find most of the items you buy regularly. Checking out the products you buy all the time on here could pay off, some products are cheaper here than they are in your local supermarket.
Subscribe and save
Amazon offers customers to subscribe to certain products that they regularly buy, like toiletries, pet or baby products. You can choose the item you need to buy, how often it needs to be delivered to you and you bag yourself a saving of 15-20%.
Amazon Warehouse
Amazon Warehouse is not as widely known as the other tips, but it is also a great way to save. You might have been in the following situation yourself once: you’ve received a perfectly good product, it works great, but it isn’t quite what you imagined, so you decide to return it. Amazon sticks those returned goods into the “Warehouse”. Everything in here customers can buy at a discount while being sure that the item has passed quality checks.
As you can see, there are plenty of ways to save money on Amazon. Which one have you tried so far and would you be interested in comparing Amazon across Europe?
